Amy Winehouse's Death: Traumatic Event or Giant Money-Maker for the Music-Industry

As you probably know, Amy Winehouse died a few days ago due to drug-abuse.

I was never a huge fan; because she was always, in my point of view, a drugged loser.

Not that I didn't care when she died. I acknowledge that she was a world-class singing phenomenon, I was just never a huge fan.

What stirred me to write this was a suprise I recieved while in town two days after her death. I was buying several dvds in Head in Victoria Square, and sitting on the counter, was a pile of books for sale. It was 'Amy Winehouse the Biography; 1983-2011'.

This is the book.

Needless to say I was appalled. This was days after her death they were already releasing books used to exploit her death. Anyone with a scrap of decency would have at least waited for the funeral. This happened to be what I said to my friend when I saw it, and as I did, a crude image came to my head where CEO types where standing in their pinstripe suits, in a sort of ice-cream van selling copies of her book - next to the funeral.

I really am appalled at the music industry at the moment. I'm sure the book itself has some quite interesting pieces in it, and maybe some heartfelt messages from her loved ones, but nevertheless I don't think it'll be my Summer read.
